The Taraba State Police Command has launched an investigation into the alleged invasion of the Chanchanji community in Takum Local Government Area by suspected armed herders.
Residents reported growing fear and unrest as herders armed with sophisticated weapons were sighted advancing into Chanchanji Ward from neighbouring Donga Local Government Area, allegedly planning coordinated attacks on surrounding settlements.
According to residents’ accounts, intelligence gathered from within the area suggested that the attackers were plotting simultaneous assaults on Peva–Chanchanji and Kufai Ahmadu towns, both within the same ward.
One of the residents, Terkula Yooso, expressed deep concern over the looming danger, recalling several previous attacks linked to the same group.
“These militants have struck several surrounding villages, displacing thousands. Many residents are already taking refuge in Peva and Amadu. We cannot survive another round of violence,” Yooso told Voice of the People (VOP).
Another resident, Philip Abur, appealed for immediate government intervention, warning that the crisis could escalate rapidly if authorities failed to respond.

“The signs are clear. The government must act immediately to avert tragedy,” Abur said.
The alarm in Chanchanji follows a recent warning by the Parish Priest of Holy Family Catholic Parish, Takum, Rev. Fr. George Dogo, who decried the resurgence of attacks and what he described as a “widening security breach”across parts of the local government area.
Residents lamented that the region had become increasingly unsafe due to repeated assaults and delayed security responses, calling for the urgent deployment of security personnel to prevent further bloodshed.
Confirming the development, the Public Relations Officer of the Taraba State Police Command, Victor Ishaku, said the command had received the report and initiated an investigation.
He, however, noted that no further updates were available as of the time of filing this report.
