The Kaduna State Police Command has confirmed the alleged killing of a Nigerian Navy officer, Lieutenant Commander M. Buba, by a suspected hoodlum in the early hours of Sunday.
Spokesperson for the Command, DSP Mansir Hassan, on Monday that the incident occurred at about 4:50 a.m. near the Kawo flyover in Kaduna metropolis.
According to Hassan, the officer was attacked and robbed while in his black Toyota vehicle with registration number APP-745HT. The assailant allegedly stabbed the officer multiple times and took away his mobile phones.
He stated that while attempting to flee the scene, the suspect was apprehended by an angry mob who beat him to deathbefore police could intervene.
The naval officer was rushed to Manaal Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead by medical personnel due to injuries sustained during the attack.
Hassan further revealed that a civilian, Mr. Suleiman Dahiru, who tried to assist the officer during the scuffle, was stabbed in the hand and is currently receiving treatment.
“The body of the late Lt.-Cdr. Buba has been deposited at the 44 Nigerian Army Reference Hospital mortuary. We have launched a full investigation and intensified surveillance in the area to ensure justice is served,” said Hassan.
The Police Command urged the public to remain calm and cooperate with security agencies as investigations continue.
