Police Nab Two Notorious Cultists in Rivers, Recover Cache of Arms

Port Harcourt, Rivers State – July 16, 2025

In a major breakthrough against criminal gangs, the Rivers State Police Command has arrested two notorious cultists believed to be behind a string of violent crimes in the state. The suspects were apprehended during a targeted raid in the Emohua Local Government Area, following weeks of intelligence gathering.

According to a statement from the command’s spokesperson, SP Grace Iringe-Koko, the duo are members of a feared cult group linked to killings, kidnappings, and armed robberies across several communities in Rivers State.

“During the operation, officers recovered a significant cache of arms, including two AK-47 rifles, locally made pistols, and several rounds of live ammunition,” Iringe-Koko said. “This is a major blow to cult-related violence that has plagued parts of the state.”

The suspects, whose names have been withheld pending further investigation, are said to have been on the police watchlist for months. Authorities believe the arrests will help dismantle their network and restore peace to the affected areas.

Residents of Emohua and surrounding communities have expressed relief at the arrests, calling for continued efforts to rid the region of cult violence and criminal gangs.

Meanwhile, the Rivers State Police Commissioner, CP Nwonyi Polycarp Emeka, reaffirmed the command’s commitment to rooting out cultism and other forms of criminality. He urged the public to support security efforts by providing timely and credible information.

The suspects are expected to be charged to court as investigations continue.
