Operatives of the Special Anti-Cult Squad in Enugwu Ukwu have intercepted two suspects and recovered a Barretta pistol, two live rounds of ammunition, and a Toyota Corolla vehicle during a routine security checkpoint on the Umudioka-Awkuzu road near Igbariam.
The incident occurred on January 25, 2025, at approximately 5:38 PM, when officers stopped a white Toyota Corolla with registration number YAB 26 CB. Out of the four occupants, two suspects, identified as 22-year-olds Raphael Peverga and Saakura Teryima, both from Benue State, were apprehended. The remaining two occupants fled the scene and are currently at large.
According to reports, the suspects attempted to evade the checkpoint by jumping from the moving vehicle after being signaled to stop for a security search.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Nnaghe Obono Itam, commended the operatives for their swift action and reassured the public that the Command is committed to strengthening its strategies to combat criminal activities in the state.
Efforts are underway to locate and apprehend the two suspects still on the run.
