In a series of security operations aimed at curbing crime and ensuring public safety, the Nigeria Police Force has successfully dismantled an illegal weapons manufacturing factory, apprehended cult members, and arrested suspects linked to murders across three states.

On January 11, 2025, police operatives raided an illegal weapons factory in Tse Akamabe, Kwande Local Government Area of Benue State. Two suspects, Friday Aduduakambe and Iorwashima Iornyume, also known as “AK,” both aged 35, were arrested. The operation uncovered 9 locally fabricated pistols, an unfinished locally fabricated AK-47 rifle, 2 gas cylinders, 4 vise machines, a filing machine, and various tools used in manufacturing weapons.

In Delta State, police officers acting on credible intelligence raided the residence of Prosper Akeni, a 32-year-old alleged member of the Eiye Confraternity. Akeni, identified as a hitman for the cult group, was found in possession of 1 English revolver pistol, 1 Beretta pistol, 2 locally made double-barrel guns, 2 single-barrel guns, 1 locally made revolver pistol, and 25 rounds of ammunition. The suspect reportedly admitted that the firearms belonged to his cult group, which he led.

Meanwhile, in Kebbi State, two separate incidents of murder resulted in the arrests of Yunusa Haruna and Abubakar Ummar. On December 31, 2024, Haruna, 25, allegedly stabbed his elder brother, Isiyaku Haruna, to death during an altercation in Bakin Turu Village, Shanga LGA. Police arrested Haruna at the scene. On January 8, 2025, Ummar was taken into custody in Zuru Village after fatally stabbing Mohammed Bala during an argument.

Inspector-General of Police, Dr. Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, praised the officers for their efforts in combating crime and reiterated the need for public vigilance and cooperation with law enforcement. He encouraged citizens to provide useful information to aid the police in fostering a community-based policing system.
