The Nigeria Police Force has removed Benjamin Hundeyin as the replacing him with Anthony Okon Placid.
In a development confirmed by sources at the police headquarters in Abuja, Hundeyin, an Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP), was replaced by Placid, a Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP).
The change is part of an internal restructuring within the police public communication structure.
Although an official statement has not yet been issued, multiple sources at the Force headquarters confirmed the leadership change to PREMIUM TIMES.
As part of the restructuring, the police authorities have also created a new department known as the New Media Office.
According to sources, Ali Giwa, a Chief Superintendent of Police (CSP), has been appointed to head the newly established unit.
Hundeyin served as the Force Public Relations Officer responsible for communicating official positions of the Nigeria Police Force to the public and the media.
The role of the FPRO is central to shaping the police force’s public messaging, handling media relations, and addressing public concerns regarding policing operations across the country.
Observers say the establishment of a dedicated New Media Office could strengthen the police’s presence on digital platforms and improve real-time communication with the public.
An official announcement from the police authorities is expected to provide further details on the restructuring and the responsibilities of the newly created unit.
