The Kaduna State Police Command has dismissed reports of a bomb blast at Mando Motor Park, clarifying that the incident was caused by a gas explosion from a commercial bus.
Police spokesperson Mansir Hassan said in a statement on Sunday that the explosion occurred around 3 a.m. and involved a compressed natural gas-powered vehicle belonging to Silver Luxury Travel.
According to the police, the loud sound reported at the park triggered an immediate response by security operatives.
“Preliminary findings revealed that the incident involved an LNG-propelled luxury bus which exploded due to overfilling of its gas tank,” the statement said.
The incident initially sparked fear among residents following speculation of a possible bomb explosion, reflecting heightened public sensitivity to security threats in northern Nigeria.
The command stressed that the explosion was not linked to any improvised explosive device or terrorist activity.
Investigation underway
Authorities confirmed that no lives were lost and no property was damaged in the incident.
The affected vehicle has since been evacuated to a safe location, while normal activities have resumed at the motor park.
Residents and commuters were also assured of their safety following the incident.
The Commissioner of Police, Muhammad Rabiu, has ordered a full investigation to determine the exact circumstances surrounding the explosion and prevent future occurrences.
Operatives of the Nigeria Police Force Bomb Disposal Unit were deployed to the scene as a precautionary measure.
The police urged the public and media organisations to verify information before dissemination, warning that unconfirmed reports could cause unnecessary panic.
The command emphasised that there was no security threat associated with the explosion.
