The Rivers State House of Assembly has launched a damning attack on Governor Siminalayi Fubara and his deputy, Ngozi Odu, accusing them of gross misconduct, reckless spending, and obstruction of legislative processes.
In a dramatic move on Monday, 26 lawmakers submitted a notice of allegationsagainst Fubara to Speaker Martin Amaewhule, citing violations of Section 188 of the 1999 Constitution and other existing laws.
Among the most explosive accusations are:
Deliberate violation of the constitution by failing to present the 2024 Appropriation Bill to the Assembly, despite a court order declaring the previously signed budget null and void. Illegal withdrawals from the state’s Consolidated Revenue Fund without legislative approval, allegedly breaching Section 120 of the Constitution.
Obstruction of the Rivers Assembly’s activities, raising concerns over executive overreach.
The lawmakers’ move is the latest escalation in the deepening crisis between Governor Fubara and the state legislature, which has been plagued by power struggles and allegations of political sabotage.
With tensions rising, the big question remains: Will this trigger impeachment proceedings, or is it a strategic move to weaken Fubara’s hold on power?
