Political War Escalates: Pro-Wike Lawmakers Move Against Gov Fubara, Accuse Him of Gross Misconduct

The political crisis in Rivers State has taken a dramatic turn as 26 pro-Wike lawmakers in the State House of Assembly have officially accused Governor Siminalayi Fubara and his deputy, Ngozi Odu, of gross misconduct. The lawmakers, in a notice sent to Speaker Martin Amaewhule, leveled damning allegations against the governor, including reckless spending of public funds, obstruction of legislative duties, and illegal appointments.

The allegations, seen as a renewed offensive against Fubara, also include claims that the governor withheld salaries, allowances, and funds belonging to the Assembly, including that of Clerk Emeka Amadi.

Deputy Governor Ngozi Odu was not spared, as the lawmakers accused her of collaborating with Fubara to make illegal appointments without proper legislative screening and confirmation.

Upon receiving the notice, Speaker Amaewhule promptly forwarded it to Governor Fubara, emphasizing that the allegations were raised by more than one-third of the Assembly members. He then ordered Fubara to respond to the accusations, referencing Section 188(3) of the Nigerian Constitution, which mandates the House to decide within 14 days whether to proceed with an investigation.

This latest development is expected to deepen the already fierce political battle between Fubara and his estranged political godfather, former Governor Nyesom Wike, who is widely believed to be behind the lawmakers’ actions.

With tensions running high, the big question now is: Is this the beginning of an impeachment plot, or will Fubara fight back against what some see as a calculated political ambush?
