An Ota Magistrates’ Court in Ogun State has sentenced a 38-year-old self-proclaimed Muslim prophet, Azeez Aboderin, to two years imprisonment for defrauding a woman of N2.2 million under false pretence.
Aboderin, whose residential address was not disclosed, initially pleaded not guilty to the two-count charge of fraud and obtaining money under false pretence.
However, Magistrate O.O. Fadairo found him guilty and sentenced him to two years in prison, with an option to pay a fine of N200,000. The court also ordered the convict to pay N2.2 million in restitution to the complainant, Oyeniyi Mariam.
The prosecution, led by ASP E.O. Adaraloye, proved that the offences were committed between January and July 2025 in the Iyana-Iyesi area of Ota.
According to Adaraloye, the convict deceived the complainant by claiming he could help her with an undisclosed issue, collected the money under false pretence, and diverted it for personal use.
The offences violated Sections 390 and 419 of the Ogun State Criminal Code Law, 2006.
