Philippine Interior Secretary Juanito Victor Remulla says 216 people have been arrested during nationwide anti-corruption protests.
Remulla told reporters on Monday that those detained at the Manila Police District included 127 adults and 89 minors.
The Department of Health confirmed that at least one person died in clashes between protesters and security forces.
On Sunday, thousands of Filipinos marched in Manila and other cities to denounce alleged corruption in government projects.
The protests followed President Ferdinand Romualdez Marcos’s July State of the Nation Address, in which he acknowledged corruption scandals tied to flood control projects.
Political fallout has since rocked the legislature. The House of Representatives recently elected Deputy Speaker Faustino Dy as its new Speaker, after Martin Romualdez resigned over corruption allegations involving infrastructure contracts. Days earlier, the Senate also replaced its president, with Vicente Sotto succeeding Francis Escudero.
