The House of Representatives is preparing to deliberate on a motion seeking urgent medical intervention for detained IPOB leader, Nnamdi Kanu, following growing concerns about his deteriorating health condition.

The motion, sponsored by Hon. Obi Aguocha (Ikwuano/Umuahia North/Umuahia South Federal Constituency, Abia State), calls on the federal government to allow Kanu access to adequate medical care, citing reports of severe health complications while in DSS custody.
Aguocha disclosed that he had written several letters to the Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. Tajudeen Abbas, and the Attorney-General of the Federation, urging them to intervene before the situation worsens. He stressed that the call for medical attention is purely humanitarian and not politically motivated.
Recent medical assessments reportedly revealed that Kanu’s condition has become critical, with recommendations from private physicians and the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA) for him to be transferred to a specialized hospital. However, the federal government has maintained that the DSS medical facility is sufficient to handle his treatment.
The House leadership has promised to schedule the motion for debate in the coming days, as lawmakers continue to press for the protection of Kanu’s fundamental rights and access to proper healthcare.
