The National Association of Resident Doctors (NARD) has given the Federal Government a fresh 24-hour ultimatum to meet their long-standing demands or face industrial action.

According to the doctors, the government has failed to implement agreements reached in earlier negotiations, including improved working conditions, payment of outstanding salaries, and provision of necessary medical equipment. They stressed that their patience is wearing thin, as many hospitals continue to struggle with shortages of staff and critical supplies.
The doctors argue that without urgent intervention, the health sector risks further decline, leaving millions of Nigerians without access to quality care. They also warned that the brain drain in the medical profession will continue if the welfare of doctors is not prioritized.
Health analysts say the ultimatum highlights the deep-rooted challenges facing Nigeria’s healthcare system—underfunding, poor infrastructure, and policy delays. For ordinary Nigerians, the worry is that another strike could mean postponed surgeries, delayed treatments, and overcrowded hospitals.
the doctors are telling the government: “Act now, or hospitals will be empty of doctors.” The situation is a test of how quickly leaders can balance workers’ rights with citizens’ urgent need for healthcare.
