Residents have called on the government for urgent intervention following the heavy downpour that caused severe flooding around Zik Avenue on Iweka Road, near the popular Ochanja Market in Onitsha, Anambra State.
The flood was said to have destroyed goods and disrupted business activities. It was said to have been triggered by several hours of non-stop rainfall and worsened by blocked drainage channels.
Reports said that consequently, the flood submerged the entire stretch of Zik Avenue, displacing traders and halting commercial operations for most of the day, with traders and residents struggling to salvage goods from flooded shops and apartments.
