Rivers Police Dismantle Child Trafficking Ring, Rescue Pregnant Victim

Port Harcourt – Monday, July 21, 2025

The Rivers State Police Command has uncovered and dismantled a major child trafficking syndicate operating within the state, leading to the rescue of a pregnant woman believed to be one of their victims.

According to the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Grace Iringe-Koko, the breakthrough came following a tip-off from concerned members of the public. Acting swiftly on the intelligence, officers raided a hideout in the Obio/Akpor Local Government Area, where several suspects were arrested.

One of the rescued victims, a young pregnant woman, was reportedly lured to the location under the pretense of receiving care and shelter. She later discovered she was being held against her will by the syndicate, which allegedly planned to sell her unborn child.

“This operation is part of our ongoing efforts to clamp down on human trafficking and related crimes,” SP Iringe-Koko said. “We are committed to ensuring that vulnerable individuals, especially women and children, are protected from these criminal networks.”

The police have launched a full investigation and are working with relevant agencies to provide medical and psychological support to the rescued woman. Authorities are also pursuing leads to track down other members of the syndicate and potential victims.

Residents are encouraged to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities to law enforcement agencies.

This latest rescue highlights the growing concern over human trafficking in Nigeria and the need for stronger community-police cooperation to combat the menace.
