The Rotary International, through its Action Group for Peace (Nigeria Chapter), has donated delivery kits to pregnant women and breastfeeding kits to nursing mothers in Katsina State.
The donation, which took place on Wednesday, benefitted no fewer than 60 underprivileged women in the Shinkafi community of Katsina Local Government Area.
Speaking at the event, the Rotary North-West Zone-3 Coordinator, Alhaji Saโidu Jibrin, said the initiative was aimed at supporting vulnerable women and complementing government efforts.
โWe are providing this support not because the government is unable, but to complement its efforts at all levels,โ he stated. โThe Rotary Action Group for Peace is committed to contributing its quota to national development.โ
Items distributed included diapers, medicated and regular bathing soaps, baby food, and mosquito nets. Jibrin noted that the kits would help ease the burden on pregnant women and nursing mothers, particularly during childbirth and early childcare.
He urged beneficiaries to use the items as intended and cautioned against selling them.
In his remarks, the acting District Head of Shinkafi, Alhaji Abdulrashid Abubakar, expressed gratitude to Rotary and pledged to inform the Emir of Katsina, Alhaji Abdulmuminu Kabir-Usman, of the development.
โThis support will significantly ease the challenges faced by women during delivery and breastfeeding. Many cannot afford basic items needed during childbirth, and newborns are often left without proper care, exposing them to health risks like malaria,โ he said.
Some of the beneficiaries also praised the initiative and promised to use the items for their intended purposes.
