Peter Nwachukwu, the husband of late gospel singer Osinachi, has been sentenced to death by hanging. The verdict was delivered by Justice Nwosu-Iheme of the FCT High Court in Wuse Zone 2, Abuja, on April 28, 2025. Nwachukwu was found guilty of culpable homicide, which led to the death of Osinachi on April 8, 2022.
In her ruling, Justice Nwosu-Iheme stated that the prosecution had successfully met the legal burden of proof, leading to the defendant’s conviction. Nwachukwu was initially arraigned on June 3, 2022, facing 23 charges, including culpable homicide, criminal intimidation, child cruelty, spousal abuse, and more.
The prosecution presented 17 witnesses, including Osinachi’s two children, who testified as the fourth and fifth prosecution witnesses. In addition, 25 documents were submitted as evidence. Nwachukwu testified in his defense and called four other witnesses, submitting four exhibits.
Before the sentencing, Nwachukwu’s defense lawyer, Reginald Nwali, urged the court for leniency, while the prosecution, represented by Mrs. Aderonke Imala, asked the court to uphold the law.
Ultimately, Nwachukwu was sentenced to death by hanging for the culpable homicide charge, with additional prison sentences for other counts. He was sentenced to two years on multiple counts (Counts 2, 3, 8, 9, 12, 13, and 18), six months on Count 10, three years on Count 11, and fined N500,000 and N200,000 for Counts 6 and 7, respectively.
