Manchester United legend Peter Schmeichel has shared his thoughts on three of the club’s major signings following their 3–1 defeat to Manchester City, saying two of them have been guilty of “doing the same thing” on the pitch.
Speaking after the derby loss, Schmeichel highlighted concerns about how some of United’s recent recruits are fitting into the team’s system. While he acknowledged the individual quality of the players, he argued that too often they occupy the same spaces and fail to provide the balance and creativity United desperately need.
The former goalkeeper, who lifted multiple Premier League titles at Old Trafford, urged patience but stressed that recruitment must match the tactical demands of modern football. He added that without smarter integration of signings, United risk repeating the cycle of inconsistency that has frustrated fans in recent seasons.
Analysts agree with Schmeichel’s assessment, noting that Manchester United have spent heavily on players but are still struggling to close the gap with rivals like Manchester City. For supporters, the concern is not just about losing to City, but about whether the team is truly building towards long-term stability.
In simple terms, Schmeichel is saying: “United have talent, but they’re not using it the right way.” The club’s challenge is to turn big spending into a winning formula.
