All eyes are on the courtroom today as controversial businessman and political figure, Scott Iguma, is set to appear before the Federal High Court in Abuja over charges ranging from fraud to breach of public trust.
The case, which has drawn national attention, involves allegations that Iguma misappropriated public funds linked to several government contracts awarded between 2021 and 2023. The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) is leading the prosecution and has reportedly prepared a list of witnesses and financial records to support its case.
Iguma, who has repeatedly denied any wrongdoing, arrived in Abuja on Sunday and is expected to plead not guilty. His legal team has described the case as โpolitically motivatedโ and vowed to challenge the charges aggressively.
โThis trial is an attempt to tarnish Mr. Igumaโs reputation and silence his growing influence,โ said a spokesperson from his legal camp.
Security has been tightened around the court premises, as supporters and protesters alike are expected to gather during the proceedings. Analysts believe the outcome of todayโs hearing could shape Igumaโs political future, especially with whispers of his interest in contesting a major elective position in 2027.
If found guilty, Iguma could face a lengthy prison term and be barred from holding public office.
The presiding judge is expected to rule on his bail application today before setting a timeline for full trial proceedings.
