In a significant security operation, authorities have arrested a 29-year-old man, Zayyanu Abdullahi, suspected of transporting illegal ammunition in Zamfara State. The arrest took place on October 13, 2024, along the Anka-Bagega road.
Abdullahi, a native of Shinkafi Local Government Area, was intercepted by security personnel and the Zamfara State Community Protection Guards (ZSCPG) at a snap roadblock set up after local residents reported suspicious activity in the area. During the search, security operatives discovered 35 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition concealed in a wrapper.
Preliminary investigations suggest Abdullahi was delivering the ammunition to a person known as Wadata in Bagega town. The suspect is currently in custody, and authorities are working to locate Wadata and other individuals connected to the illegal arms trade.
This arrest highlights the ongoing efforts by security forces to address the proliferation of illegal arms in Zamfara State, which has been grappling with persistent security challenges.
