President Bola Tinubu inaugurated the 5.04km Ojota-Opebi Link Bridge, the five-storey Lagos State Geographic Information Service (LAGIS) Building, and the Lagos Multi-Agency Administrative Complex.
Speaking at the inauguration, President Tinubu, represented by Senate President Akpabio, highlighted the Ojota-Opebi Link Bridge as a key development to ease traffic congestion along the Ikeja-Maryland-Ojota corridor, stimulate business growth, and raise living standards.
“The Ojota-Opebi Link Bridge is more than infrastructure; it is a bridge to opportunities. In a busy city like Lagos, vehicular movement is more than just commuting; it is closely linked to the city’s economic well-being. When traffic flows, productivity improves. When time is saved, businesses grow. When access is made easier, living standards improve. The Lagos Government has continued to show that development must be seen, felt, and experienced by the citizens. The Ojota-Opebi Link Bridge project being inaugurated today sends a clear message that the government of Lagos State has not been overwhelmed by the mobility challenges facing the State,” the President said.
Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, noted that the bridge would enhance traffic efficiency and improve the quality of life for commuters. According to his Special Adviser (Media and Publicity), Mr Gboyega Akosile, the project was envisioned by the then-Governor Tinubu administration in 2002.
“We have built not just for today’s needs, but with a clear eye on the expanding demands of the future. As part of this project, we integrated a comprehensive stormwater management system to address long-standing flooding along the Odo-Iya-Alaro corridor, strengthening environmental resilience,” Governor Sanwo-Olu said.
President Tinubu was joined by All Progressives Congress (APC) governors led by their chairman, Imo State Governor Hope Uzodinma. Other dignitaries included members of the Lagos State cabinet, legislators from the Lagos State House of Assembly, leaders of the Governance Advisory Council, Local Government Area chairpersons, and APC members in Lagos.
Mr Tinubu emphasised that the newly inaugurated projects placed the citizens’ well-being at the centre of development and thanked the Lagos Government for naming the new Administrative Complex after him.
“The Administrative Complex being commissioned today is an investment in efficiency, coordination, and better service delivery. The edifice will strengthen government capacity to deliver improved services to the people. Let me emphasise that these achievements are more than the ability of one man; they showcase a system that is working. It is about public service that continues to deliver the dividends of democracy to the masses,” President Tinubu said.
The LAGIS Building was described as the future of an efficient and transparent land administration system. Mr Tinubu stressed that data and technology are essential to land management, strengthening planning and improving economic value.
Mrs Bunmi Dayo-Olagunju, representing the Chief Executive of Stanbic IBTC Bank, Wole Adeniyi, highlighted the focus on integrating technology and sustainable service delivery.
“Our goal is to explore what’s next and understand how developments like artificial intelligence and evolving financial services will shape businesses,” Mrs Dayo-Olagunju said.
The Multi-Agency Administrative Complex, renamed the Bola Ahmed Tinubu Administrative Complex by Mr Sanwo-Olu, sits on approximately 2.01 hectares within the Government Secretariat precinct. It comprises four vertical blocks with over 7,362 square metres of modern office space, a penthouse, conference facilities, parking for over 300 vehicles, and fully integrated mechanical, electrical, fire safety, and external infrastructure systems.
Mr Sanwo-Olu explained that the renaming recognised President Tinubu’s vision and contributions to institutional development in Lagos.
When asked why the president did not attend physically, the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Public Communications, Sunday Dare, told Channels Television that the President was monitoring state matters and prioritising security.
“President Tinubu is in Lagos but has been busy with state matters and must prioritise, especially security. He’s monitoring developments and taking constant security briefs,” Mr Dare said.
