SERAP Gives Akpabio, Abass 7 Days to Halt N110bn on Bulletproof Cars, Others

The Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project, SERAP, has asked Senate President Godswill Akpabio and the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abbass to halt the planned spending of N110 billion on bulletproof cars and palliative for National Assembly members.

The group made this known in a statement today by its deputy director, Kolawole Oluwadare.

SERAP asked President Bola Ahmed Tibubu to make a fresh supplementary appropriation bill without the inclusion of the N110 billion for cars and support to lawmakers.

The group stressed that N110 billion can be used to address the problem of out-of-school children.

SERAP described the alleged act as a breach of public trust.

It, therefore, urged the president to repeal the 2022 Supplementary Appropriation Act to reduce the budget for the National Assembly to reflect the current economic realities in the country and address the impact of the removal of fuel subsidy on the over 137 million poor Nigerians.

The group also suggested that the President should present a fresh supplementary appropriation bill, to redirect the N110 billion to address the situation of the over 20 million out-of-school children in Nigeria, for the approval of the National Assembly.
