Seven Construction Workers Abducted in Kwara, ₦500m Ransom Sought

Suspected terrorists who abducted seven construction workers in Oba community, Isin Local Government Area of Kwara State, have demanded a ransom of N500 million for their release. The victims were seized while working on an ongoing construction project in the area.

A source within one of the victims’ families told SaharaReporters on Wednesday evening that the kidnappers had established contact and insisted that the full ransom must be paid before the workers would be freed. The abduction has thrown the families of the victims and residents of the community into fear and uncertainty.

The source said the attack occurred when armed men stormed the construction site, overpowered the workers, and forced them into the bush without immediate resistance. Among those abducted are two staff members of the Kwara State Ministry of Works.

The families have appealed to the Kwara State Government and security agencies to intensify efforts to secure the safe release of the workers. SaharaReporters had earlier reported the abduction shortly after the incident occurred in the community.

The incident comes amid broader security concerns in the state, following the recent arrest of suspected bandits by Nigerian soldiers in Ifelodun Local Government Area. The suspects were intercepted while patrolling in a local security vehicle with AK-47 rifles and, during interrogation captured on video, claimed the vehicle and weapons were provided by the Kwara State Government—an allegation that has further raised questions about security arrangements in the area
