Several persons have been injured following three explosions that struck different parts of Maiduguri, the Borno State capital, on Monday night.

One of the blasts occurred at the entrance of the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital, located a short distance from the Government House, while another explosion was reported at the busy Monday Market area.

According to initial reports, the explosions happened almost simultaneously shortly after iftar, around 7 p.m., causing panic across the city.

A counter-insurgency monitoring platform, Zagazola Makama, which first shared footage of the incident on social media, indicated that the attacks targeted crowded locations, including the main market and the hospital vicinity.

Videos circulating online show injured victims being evacuated from the hospital area using tricycles, as emergency responders and residents scrambled to assist those affected.

The Head of Operations at the Federal Fire Service in Borno State, Mohammed Kafaran, confirmed the incident and said response teams had been deployed.

“Yes, there was a bomb explosion at the Monday Market area around Elkanemi. We have deployed our team there to assess the situation. We will get back to you shortly,” Mr Kafaran said.

As of the time of filing this report, the Borno State Police Command had yet to release an official statement on the explosions.

Authorities are expected to provide further details as investigations continue into the cause and circumstances surrounding the attacks.
