The deputy governor of Edo State, Philip Shaibu, has dragged Asue Ighodalo, and the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP to court over the outcome of the recently concluded governorship primary election.

Also named in the lawsuit filed by Shaibu is the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC.

You will recall that the PDP had announced Ighodalo, who is said to be the preferred candidate of Governor Godwin Obaseki, as winner of the election and governorship candidate of the party in the forthcoming election.

But Shaibu, who was also declared winner of a parallel governorship poll which took place at his residence, has since disagreed with Ighodalo’s victory.

Days after the primary election, Shaibu arrived at the PDP national secretariat in Abuja to demand his certificate of return.

Shaibu claimed that he was the PDP’s authentic governorship candidate for the election.

Shaibu is seeking a court order to invalidate the election that took place at Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium in Benin, where Asue Ighodalo was declared the PDP’s gubernatorial candidate.

Meanwhile, the Edo State House of Assembly has commenced impeachment proceedings against Shaibu
