Vice President Kashim Shettima on Wednesday led a host of dignitaries in a solemn prayer session for the repose of the soul of former President Muhammadu Buhari, who passed away on Sunday at the age of 82.
The prayer session, held at the late president’s residence in Daura, drew prominent personalities from across Nigeria and beyond. The event was covered by the Voice Of the People (VOP).
Among those in attendance were Katsina State Governor Dikko Radda, 25 serving ministers, the Emir of Daura Alhaji Umar Faruk-Umar, head of the Buhari family Alhaji Mamman Daura, and several former ministers who served under Buhari’s administration.
Also present were former Anambra State Governor Peter Obi, former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufa’i, Borno State Governor Babagana Zulum, NDLEA Chairman Buba Marwa, and elder statesman Alhaji Babagana Kingibe.
Vice President Shettima quoted the Holy Qur’an, saying, “Every soul shall taste death.” He described Buhari’s death as a national tragedy that has deeply shaken the nation.
“His passing has sent waves of grief across the country. Many mourn the loss of a man they saw as honest, disciplined, and profoundly committed to national service. Buhari was not an ordinary man,” Shettima stated.
He offered prayers for the forgiveness of Buhari’s shortcomings, eternal peace for his soul, and divine protection for his family.

The Vice President also announced that, following consultations with President Bola Tinubu, Buhari’s family, and Governor Radda, a final prayer session will be held on Thursday at 12 noon in Daura.
In his remarks, Governor Radda urged Nigerians to emulate the late president’s virtues.
“We buried him not because we wanted to, but because it was Allah’s will. May Allah have mercy on his soul,” he said.
Former Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Prof. Isa Ali Pantami, also offered prayers, praising Buhari’s contributions to national development and urging continued prayers for him.
Other clerics who led prayers included Malam Musa Kafar-Baru, Malam Yazid, and Sheikh Salisu, all of whom prayed fervently for the peaceful repose of the late president’s soul.
