The Super Veterans Sport and Social Club of Zaria (SVSSCZ) has celebrated its fifth anniversary, highlighting a half-decade of community development, youth empowerment, and grassroots engagement.
In a statement made available to Voice of the people (VOP) on Monday in Lagos, the club reflected on its journey since its founding in 2020, emphasizing its dedication to fostering positive change across Zaria.
SVSSCZ is a non-partisan male association made up of distinguished professionals aged 40 and above, drawn from diverse sectors of the economy. The club was established in response to rising youth restlessness and a lack of productive opportunities within the community.
Chairman of the club, Mr. Paul Osazua, expressed pride in the clubโs achievements over the past five years. He noted that SVSSCZ has consistently earned the trust and respect of traditional and religious leaders through its impactful programs.
โWeโve supported local schools by donating books and writing materials and have also extended support to orphanage homes across Zaria,โ Osazua stated. โThese gestures reflect our commitment to inclusive development, education, and youth welfare.โ
A key highlight of the clubโs activities is its annual Five-Aside Football Tournament, which has grown significantly since its launch two years ago. The 2025 edition saw participation from over 30 grassroots teams, up from 13 the previous year. Each team registered with a modest fee of โฆ15,000.
Samaru Selected FC emerged as the champions of the 2025 tournament, winning a โฆ150,000 cash prize and other valuable incentives. Alpha Football Academy finished as runners-up and also received a cash award. Individual players were honored with customised gifts, including ‘Man of the Match’ and ‘Best Player’ awards, to further encourage excellence and participation.
Osazua also expressed appreciation to the Zaria Emirate Council, supportive individuals, and institutions for their moral, financial, and logistical support. He urged corporate organisations to align their CSR initiatives with the clubโs vision in order to expand its reach and deepen its impact.
โAs we celebrate five impactful years, we are not just reflecting on our past but setting the stage for greater achievements,โ he said.
Also speaking, a member of the club, Prof. Tunji Iyiola-Tunji, reaffirmed the clubโs commitment to peaceful coexistence and meaningful youth engagement.
โWe believe lasting peace and development can only be achieved when young people are empowered and actively involved in building the society,โ he said. โOur goal is to ensure no youth is left behind as we build a better Zaria and a better Nigeria.โ
