The Commissioner of Police in Anambra State, CP Ikioye Orutugu, has reaffirmed that efforts are ongoing to re-arrest the suspects who escaped after being implicated in the kidnap and murder of Hon. Justice Azuka, a lawmaker representing Onitsha 1 Constituency in the Anambra State House of Assembly.
CP Orutugu provided the assurance on Saturday during a visit to the Rapid Response Squad (RRS) Formation in Awkuzu, where he accompanied the State Governor, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, for a facility assessment tour.
During the visit, the Police Commissioner briefed Governor Soludo on security operations and measures being implemented to prevent similar crimes in the future. He also announced a reorganisation of the RRS unit, which includes a review of suspects in custody to ensure accountability and transparency in police investigations.
“The reorganisation of the RRS unit is aimed at enhancing its operational effectiveness in crime prevention and law enforcement,” Orutugu stated. He emphasized that the police are strengthening evidence-gathering procedures to facilitate successful prosecutions.
A statement from the Command further highlighted that the new approach to handling suspects would bolster security across the state.
Governor Soludo’s visit, the statement noted, underscores his commitment to safeguarding Anambra residents, while CP Orutugu’s leadership reflects a focus on professional policing, community engagement, and maintaining law and order.
