Former Governor of Anambra State and Labour Party presidential candidate in the 2023 elections, Peter Obi, has donated N50 million to the newly established Shanahan University in Onitsha.
Speaking at the university’s official opening ceremony, Obi stressed the growing importance of knowledge over oil, emphasizing that knowledge is the currency of the future. He praised the founder, His Grace, Most Reverend Valerian Okeke, Archbishop of Onitsha, for his vision, noting that education is key to humanity’s future.
“Our focus as a society should be on preparing for tomorrow,” Obi said, while commending the church for its long-standing role in establishing high-quality educational institutions globally. He called on the public to support the church’s efforts in advancing education.
Archbishop Valerian Okeke expressed gratitude to Obi, recalling his immense support for missionary-owned institutions during his time as governor. He also announced free internet access for all students until January 2025.
The Vice Chancellor of Shanahan University, Professor Obi Oguejiofor, shared the institution’s goal to become one of the leading universities in Nigeria. He revealed that all of the over 200 pioneer students are benefiting from tuition-free education for the current academic session
