South East Was Calm Before Kanu’s Arrest — Frank Ehiosun Makes Bold Claim

Lagos, Nigeria — Political analyst Frank Ehiosun has alleged that some individuals may be deliberately engineering and benefiting from the continued detention of Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), arguing that the South-East region was more peaceful when Kanu was not in custody.

Speaking during a discussion on national television, Ehiosun questioned the motives behind the prolonged detention, noting that insecurity and unrest in the South East worsened after Kanu’s arrest.

“I can say that some people are engineering Nnamdi Kanu’s case, because when he was not in prison, the South East was peaceful — unlike now that he is in custody,” Ehiosun said.

He suggested that the current situation may be politically motivated, with some actors using Kanu’s incarceration as a tool to destabilize the region or advance personal agendas.

“If you look closely, the violence and agitation increased after he was detained. Before then, there was a form of control — people listened to him. But now, different factions are doing whatever they like,” he added.

Ehiosun called on the Federal Government to adopt a political and reconciliatory approach, warning that continued hostility would only deepen division and insecurity.

“Dialogue remains the best path forward. If we truly want peace in the South East, we must remove politics from Kanu’s case and focus on lasting solutions,” he said.

Observers have repeatedly urged the government to seek a political resolution to Kanu’s prolonged detention, describing it as a necessary step toward restoring peace and confidence in the region.
