Nobel Laureate, Prof. Wole Soyinka, on Monday met with Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva in Brasília, where he called for stronger cultural ties between Nigeria and Brazil.
The Voice of the People (VOP) reports that the visit coincided with President Bola Tinubu’s ongoing state visit to Brazil, during which he held bilateral talks with President da Silva.
Although Soyinka’s meeting was private, it aligned with broader governmental and private sector efforts to deepen relations between Africa’s most populous nation and South America’s largest economy.
During the engagement, Soyinka presented a Portuguese translation of his book, Mito, Literatura e o Mundo Africano(Myth, Literature and the African World), to President da Silva.
The literary icon stressed the importance of cultural diplomacy as a tool for strengthening mutual understanding and building global partnerships.
Soyinka later participated in cultural renaissance events hosted by Brazilian communities, further promoting Afro-Brazilian exchange and heritage.
