Starmer Dismisses Putin’s Ceasefire as a ‘Sham,’ Accuses Russia of Sabotaging Peace Talks

LONDON—UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer has taken a hardline stance against Russian President Vladimir Putin, dismissing his ceasefire commitments as “hollow promises” and accusing him of playing games with peace negotiations over Ukraine.

Speaking ahead of a key summit in Paris, Starmer declared that Putin has shown no genuine interest in peace, contrasting him with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, whom he praised for acting in “good faith.” He criticized Russia’s handling of the Black Sea ceasefire, accusing Moscow of escalating violence despite ongoing diplomatic efforts.

“The United States is playing a leading role in the ceasefire talks, and President Zelensky has demonstrated his commitment repeatedly,” Starmer stated, urging Putin to “play ball” if he is serious about ending the war.

His remarks have triggered mixed reactions, with supporters applauding his tough stance against Russian aggression, while critics argue that Western leaders continue to escalate tensions rather than push for meaningful diplomacy. As global powers gather in Paris, the question remains: is peace truly on the table, or is this just another chapter in the geopolitical power struggle?
