State of Emergency Needed in Two States, ADC Tells Tinubu

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has called on President Bola Tinubu to declare a state of emergency in two Nigerian states due to what it describes as worsening security situations and governance failures.

The ADC has recommended that the states of Imo and Benue be placed under a state of emergency. The party cited escalating violence, kidnappings, and ethnic conflicts that have significantly undermined peace and security in these regions.

  • Imo State: The state has been battling increased insurgency from armed groups, with a growing wave of violent clashes between security forces and non-state actors, creating an environment of instability.

  • Benue State: The ADC highlighted the rural-urban violence, particularly between farmers and herders, and the lack of control over banditry, which has left residents vulnerable.

  • The ADC believes that a state of emergency is the only way to restore order and security, calling for direct federal intervention to stabilize the regions and bring an end to the suffering of civilians.

  • The ADC’s demand for a state of emergency in Imo and Benue underscores the critical security challenges facing these states. It remains to be seen how President Tinubu will respond to the party’s call, which could set the tone for his administration’s approach to internal conflicts
