PESHAWAR – Three paramilitary personnel were killed and at least five others injured on Monday when three suicide bombers attacked the headquarters of Pakistan’s Frontier Constabulary in Peshawar, authorities confirmed.
According to officials, the attackers first targeted the main entrance of the constabulary before entering the compound, opening fire, and detonating explosives. Deputy Commandant Javed Iqbal confirmed the deaths, while a senior official, speaking to Reuters on condition of anonymity, said security forces, including army and police, cordoned off the area as they conducted a careful search for any remaining attackers inside the headquarters.
Residents reported that roads around the compound were quickly closed and secured by law enforcement personnel. The five wounded, including two paramilitary personnel, were taken to Lady Reading Hospital, with hospital spokesperson Mohammad Asim providing updates on their condition.
No group has claimed responsibility for the attack. However, Islamist militants in the region have escalated their operations following last month’s deadly border clashes between Pakistan and Afghanistan. Pakistan has accused the Afghan Taliban of harboring militants responsible for cross-border attacks, a claim that Kabul has repeatedly denied.
Security analysts warn that the attack highlights ongoing vulnerabilities in the region and underscores the persistent threat posed by militant groups despite increased security measures. The government has pledged to investigate the attack thoroughly and bring the perpetrators to justice.
