    GUNMEN BURN OKIGWE PDP CANDIDATE’S HOUSES, VEHICLES

    Gunmen have set ablaze the country home of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate for Okigwe state constituency of Imo State, Ifeanyi Ozoemena.

    The incident came two weeks after a similar attack was launched on his kinsmen, including the state Commissioner for Youths and Sports, Emeka Okoronkwo.

    An eyewitness who pleaded anonymity said the criminals arrived at Ozoemena’s compound in a Toyota Sienna van around 2pm on Tuesday.

    The witness said they threw improvised explosive devices into the house which also destroyed vehicles parked within the compound before escaping.

    Reacting, Ozoemena expressed shock over the development, saying that it was by God’s grace that his households including his aged parents escaped the attack.

    The PDP candidate called on the security agencies to provide adequate security and apprehend the perpetrators of the attack.

    When contacted, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) in the state, ASP Henry Okoye, said he had yet to be briefed about the incident.

    Gunmen dressed in military uniforms reportedly attacked commuters travelling on Lagos-Ibadan Expressway on Tuesday.

    The gunmen suspected to be kidnappers stormed the road from the bush before the Sagamu Interchange en route Lagos and started shooting at motorists in the 18-passenger inter-state bus.

    GUNMEN KIDNAP EX-A’IBOM PERM SEC AFTER CHURCH MEETING

     Gunmen  on Monday, kidnapped  a former Permanent Secretary of Akwa Ibom State, Ignatius Brown, in Abak Local Government Area of the state.

     Brown, who is the chairman, Saint John’s Catholic Church Council, Abak LGA was abducted a few metres away from his home while returning home after the church meeting he had with his members that evening.

     The retired Permanent Secretary who hails from Etinan Local Government Area had been living in Abak, for many years before the incident occurred that fateful day.

     An eye witness who identified himself as Mr Aniefiok Marcus told correspondents in Uyo on Tuesday that the hoodlums trailed the Permanent Secretary from the church along Abak-Ikot Ekpene road and overtook his driver some few metres away from his house.

    GUNMEN KIDNAP EX-ANAMBRA LAWMAKER, OTHER

    A former Anambra State House of Assembly member, Sylvester Okeke, being kidnapped.

    Okeke was said to have been kidnapped alongside another person, whose identity is yet to be ascertained, close to a military checkpoint along the Ring Road in Awka, the state capital.

    It was gathered that the lawmaker, who had been missing since Friday, was returning from a town union meeting when the incident happened.

    According to a family source, the kidnappers have called the former legislator’s family members and demanded ransom.

    Another source in the ex-legislator’s Agulu hometown in Anaocha Local Government Area of the state told journalists that the family members of the former lawmaker were handling the issue secretly so as not to make any public statement that could jeopardise the chances of negotiating his freedom.

    You will recall that the INEC chair professor Mahmud yakubu, had expressed fears that the 2023 election cannot be ascertained because of the current security situation in the south east and North west.

    Some gunmen have invaded Obeagu community in the Ishielu Local Government Area of Ebonyi State, kidnapping undisclosed number of people on Thursday night.

    VOP news gathered that suspected herdsmen on March 29, 2021, invaded the community and killed 17 persons.

    However, despite recovering the phone of one the invaders, no one has been arrested till date in connection with the attack.

    Meanwhile, sources from the community disclosed to correspondents that on Thursday night the invaders, laid siege along the community’s only access road, abducted people returning home.

    The attack occurred at the same spot where the suspected herdsmen had attacked and killed 17 persons last year.

    GUNMEN KILL NINE TIV FARMERS IN NASARAWA COMMUNITY

    No fewer than nine Tiv farmers of Gidan Sule community in Keana Local Government Area of Nasarawa State have reportedly been killed by gunmen suspected to be herdsmen.

    Investigations reveal that the sad incident occured on Saturday night when the gunmen who were armed with AK-47 rifles stormed the community shooting sporadically into the air, and killing any person in sight.

    At the end of the sporadic gunshots, nine persons were reportedly killed while others who escaped with bullet wounds including children, women and aged parents are presently missing.

    Confirming the incident to correspondents in Lafia today, the President of Tiv Development Association in the state, Peter Ahemba, narrated that five corpses were first recovered on Sunday morning and later that day, four other corpses were recovered from a bush in the community.

    Gunmen have attacked Jouro Manu village in the Gassol Local Government Area of Taraba state, killing three people and kidnapping six others.

    Residents said the attackers came on motorcycles at about 2 pm last night and started shooting anyone at sight.

    Residents of the community revealed that people were fleeing the communities around the area for fear of being killed or kidnapped.

    Acting Police Public Relations Officer of the Taraba State command, Gambo Bajabu Kwache, confirmed the incident noting the police were already on top of the situation.
