NNPP Chieftain Reveals Kwankwaso Was Expelled for Attempting to Take Over Party

A chieftain of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), Agbo Major, has reiterated that Rabiu Kwankwaso, the presidential candidate in the 2023 election, has been formally expelled from the party.

According to Major, who currently assumes the role of the party’s chairman, the decision to expel Kwankwaso stemmed from an alleged endeavour by the former governor of Kano State and his supporters to wrest control of the party away from its original founders.

Major stands firm in his assertion that the expulsion was necessary to preserve the party’s integrity and prevent it from being taken over by Kwankwaso and his loyalists.

He stated that Kwankwaso’s faction became part of the party in the previous year under the condition of an agreement, which allowed them to participate in the 2023 elections.

The Agbo Major group primarily comprises longstanding members of the party, while the opposing faction consists of individuals aligned with Kwankwaso, who served as the party’s presidential candidate.

NNPP Reacts to Supreme Court’s Affirmation of Tinubu as President.

The New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) has congratulated President Bola Tinubu on his victory at the Supreme Court, which upheld his election victory on February 25, 2023.

The Lagos State NNPP Secretary, Mr. Sheriff Oladejo, in an interview on Friday in Lagos, wished Tinubu a successful tenure in office.

Oladejo said that the NNPP, as a political party, did not go to court to challenge the election results but that other political parties had the absolute right to do so if they felt they had genuine grievances.

He noted that all the parties had now exhausted the legal process and that the Supreme Court’s verdict was final.

The Supreme Court on Thursday dismissed appeals by Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, the candidate of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) for the election, and his Labour Party counterpart, Mr. Peter Obi.

Recall that the Presidential Election Petition Tribunal in September affirmed Tinubu’s election victory.

NNPP Faces Existential Threat as Crisis Deepens

The crisis rocking the New Nigeria Peoples Party, NNPP, has continued to rage on between the Kwankwasiyya and the original members.

The latest was the alleged expulsion of Sen. Rabiu Kwankwaso by the NNPP’s National Executive Committee, NEC, following his refusal to appear before the party’s Disciplinary Committee.

Mr Abdulsalam Abdulrasaq, the Acting National Publicity Secretary of NNPP, who announced the expulsion, stated in a statement on Tuesday in Lagos that the NEC had immediately expelled Kwankwaso because of his refusal to honour the committee’s invitations.

The Kwankwaso group specifically accused Aniebonam of creating a parallel group within the party to cause disaffection in the NNPP.

The group also upheld motions to extend the tenure of the acting national Chairman, Mallam Abah-Kawu Ali, and to redesign the party’s logo.

NNPP warns Tinubu, Atiku against working with Kwankwaso

State Chairmen’s Forum of New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) has warned President Bola Tinubu and former Vice President Atiku Abubakar to be cautious in their dealings with former Presidential Candidate of NNPP, Rabiu Kwankwaso.

They said the meeting between Kwankwaso and some big wigs in Nigeria’s politics was the former’s ploy to remain relevant after allegedly losing the grip of NNPP’s structure across the country.

In a statement, at the weekend, Ogun NNPP Chairman and Leader of the Forum, Olaposi Oginni, urged Atiku and Tinubu to terminate any dealings with the former governor of Kano.

For the forum, the recent meeting between Kwankwaso and Atiku is distasteful and disgraceful.

Oginni urged the Department of State Services (DSS) to keep an eye on Kwankwaso’s political desperation, which may constitute security risk.

The NNPP chairmen accused Kwankwaso of betraying the founder of the party, Dr. Boniface Aniebonam, by breaking the Memorandum of Understanding signed before the 2023 presidential election.

“Dr. Aniebonam gave him the platform without taking a dime to enable him contest the 2023 presidential election. It is saddening that Kwankwaso is shamelessly trying all possible means to hijack the party from the original owner.

“In the same vein, Kwankwaso, without recourse to the states chairmen and the Chairman, Board of Trustees (BoT), unilaterally started and concluded negotiation with Tinubu on the recent presidential election. This anti-party activity was confirmed by Kwankwaso’s spokesperson, Ladipo Johnson, when he appeared on Channels Television last week to respond to various allegations by Oginni,” the statement reads.

The forum used the medium to warn Atiku to be more careful in his dealings with the likes of nomadic politicians of Kwankwaso’s calibre. It added: “Atiku and PDP’s preemptive measures on likely presidential election rerun shall be counter-productive with the likes of Kwankwaso, who can never be trusted.”

“What else can a Kwankwaso, who ensured that Atiku  did not emerge as the sole candidate from the North, ready to offer after the colossal damages of Atiku’s and PDP’s chance of winning the presidential election?”

NNPP CHIEFTAIN URGES FG TO APPROVE N200,000 MINIMUM WAGE FOR NIGERIAN WORKERS

The gubernatorial candidate of New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) in the last general elections in Ogun State, Ambassador Olufemi Oguntoyinbo, has appealed to the President Bola Ahmed Tinubu-led federal government to accede to the N200,000 minimum wage for workers across the country.

He made these disclosures via a statement made available today.

Oguntoyinbo noted that this is necessary in view of the present economic reality occasioned by the increment in the prices of goods and services across the country.

You will recall that the labour unions had proposed N200,000 as the minimum wage before the President.

Oguntoyinbo, however, appealed to Tinubu to accede to the request.

The NNPP candidate in the statement lamented that it is worrisome that low-income earners are struggling with harsh economic realities, with about 120 million citizens living in poverty.

He explained that the best way to reduce the suffering of the workers is to accede to the N200,000 minimum wage request.

He added that his appeal is based on the present economic reality in the country and added that President Tinubu and the governors should find ways to listen and approve the request from the workers.
