“Terrorist Attack on Kwara-Kogi Road Leaves Traders Missing”

In the early hours of Tuesday, December 2, terrorists launched a violent ambush on traders traveling from Koro in Ekiti Local Government Area of Kwara State to Egbe in Yagba West Local Government Area of Kogi State for the weekly Ebu Market Day.

SaharaReporters gathered that the attackers struck along the Koro–Egbe route, intercepting vehicles carrying traders on their routine journey to the border community market. As of this report, the exact number of individuals kidnapped remains unknown.

The attack has intensified fear among residents of the Kwara–Kogi border communities, who say the route has become increasingly unsafe despite repeated alerts to authorities.

This incident follows similar reports of violence along other corridors in Kogi State. Earlier, tension erupted on the Oshokoshoko–Obajana highway after terrorists launched a brazen attack on commuters, leaving travelers stranded for hours as gunmen reportedly took control of the road.

A video obtained by SaharaReporters shows dozens of vehicles halted along the highway as commuters awaited rescue amid ongoing clashes between security forces and the attackers. One distressed traveler narrated the ordeal:

“Everybody, see what is happening here. This is Oshoko Shoko in Kogi State between Kabba and Obajana. We have been here for more than three hours. Kidnappers are taking over the road. We don’t know what to do… everywhere is on fire. Soldiers and these bandits are clashing presently. Honestly, everyone is stuck,” he said.

The commuter continued, appealing for urgent government intervention: “Nigeria, please come and save us here. We are in trouble. Everyone is parked; nobody is moving. Kidnappers are taking over the road.”

Residents and travelers continue to call on authorities to strengthen security along major trade and commuting routes in the region to prevent further attacks and kidnappings.
