Three Kidnapped, Doctor Shot as Bandits Invade Katsina Hospital/Vop

A medical doctor on duty at Kankara General Hospital in Katsina State, North-West Nigeria, was shot by armed bandits late Tuesday night. The attackers stormed the hospital with AK-47 rifles, firing at Murtala Saleh, hitting him in the right thigh. Another victim, Kamala Suleiman, was injured in the knee during the attack.

Both victims are currently receiving medical attention and are reported to be in stable condition. The police quickly responded to the incident, engaging the marauders in a gunfight, but three other individuals were kidnapped during the attack.

Police spokesman Abubakar Aliyu confirmed that efforts are being made to ensure the safe return of the kidnapped victims and to arrest those responsible for this “senseless act.” He added that additional security measures, including more police deployment, have been ordered to enhance safety in the area.

Katsina State’s Commissioner of Police, Aliyu Musa, condemned the attack, emphasizing the need for stronger protection of healthcare workers and facilities. He ordered an intensified search operation to track down the perpetrators.

This incident follows other similar attacks in the region, raising concerns about growing insecurity in North-West Nigeria.
