A three-storey building under construction at Regina Caeli Junction in Awka collapsed late last night, prompting Anambra State Governor, Professor Chukwuma Soludo, to caution developers against using substandard materials.
Speaking through his deputy, Dr. Onyekachukwu Ibezim, during a visit to the site, Governor Soludo stressed the dangers of poor construction practices and urged builders to prioritize safety to prevent further tragedies.
The engineer in charge of the project, identified as Mr. Stanley, was contacted by the Deputy Governor via phone while still trapped under the rubble along with two other workers. Emergency responders swiftly rescued them, and they were taken to the hospital for treatment.
Officials from the Ministry of Health, the Fire Service, and other emergency response agencies were present at the scene as investigations commenced to determine the cause of the collapse.
