Tinubu’s Appointments to NCDMB Spark Controversy Over Alleged Political Favoritism

Abuja—President Bola Tinubu’s latest appointments to the Governing Council of the Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board (NCDMB) have stirred controversy, with critics questioning the selection process and alleging political favoritism.

In a statement on Thursday, Presidential Adviser Bayo Onanuga announced that Tinubu had approved the nominations of four new members to “fill existing vacancies” and “strengthen the board’s capacity.” However, the appointments have raised eyebrows, with some observers arguing that they reflect political patronage rather than merit-based selections.

Among the newly endorsed members are Mr. Olusegun Omosehin (National Insurance Commission), Engr. Wole Ogunsanya (Petroleum Technology Association of Nigeria), Sam Onyechi (Nigerian Content Consultative Forum), and Barrister Owei Oyanbo (Ministry of Petroleum Resources). While the government insists that these individuals were chosen for their expertise, skeptics claim the process lacked transparency and failed to reflect Nigeria’s diverse interests.

Critics argue that the governing council, which plays a crucial role in Nigeria’s oil and gas sector, should not be used as a political reward system. With growing concerns over governance and accountability, questions linger about whether these appointments serve the national interest or reinforce entrenched political networks.
