A member of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Mr. Stephen Ogundipe, has said that President Bola Tinubu’s Independence Day broadcast has renewed hope for a stronger and more prosperous Nigeria.
Ogundipe, who chairs the House Committee on Information, Strategy and Security, stated this in an interview with the Voice of the people (VOP) on Wednesday in Lagos.
VOP reports that in his 2025 Independence Anniversary address, President Tinubu declared that Nigeria had “turned the corner” and that the challenges that followed the implementation of his reforms were now behind the nation, paving the way for economic recovery and growth.
“I am pleased to report that we have finally turned the corner. The worst is over. Yesterday’s pains are giving way to relief,” the President had said.
Reacting, Ogundipe, who represents Oshodi-Isolo Constituency 1, said the President’s message was reassuring and offered citizens hope in the midst of difficulties.
“Nigerians must never lose the flame of hope. There will be light at the end of the tunnel,” he said.
The lawmaker noted that despite its challenges, Nigeria remained strong and resilient, and had every reason to celebrate its 65th Independence Anniversary.
“As we celebrate, let us reflect on the true meaning of freedom. Beyond being a natural right, freedom is a state of mind — one that empowers us to achieve greatness and create inspiring things.
On behalf of our Speaker, Rt. Hon. Mudashiru Obasa; the Principal Officers; and my colleagues in the Lagos State House of Assembly, I extend warm felicitations to Nigerians on this historic day,” Ogundipe said.
He urged Nigerians to see the anniversary as an opportunity to recommit to the collective task of rebuilding the nation, stressing that freedom must be accompanied by good governance, visionary leadership, and active citizenship.
Ogundipe also called on Nigerians to embrace diversity as a strength and rise above tribal, religious, and political differences.
“Our resilience, creativity, and determination will define the Nigeria of tomorrow. The future is promising, and together, we can make it even brighter,” he added.
