A Magistrates’ Court in Jos on Friday sentenced a 22-year-old trader, Shederack Danlami, to four months imprisonment for stealing two chickens.
Magistrate Shawomi Bokkos delivered a summary judgment after Danlami pleaded guilty to the charge. In her ruling, Bokkos gave the convict an option of a ₦20,000 fine and ordered him to pay an additional ₦20,000 as compensation to the complainant.
Earlier, Prosecutor Inspector Daniel Longwal told the court that the case was reported to the Anglo-Jos Police Station on March 25 by a local vigilante group.
According to Longwal, Danlami stole and slaughtered the two chickens, which were valued at ₦20,000. The act, he said, violated Section 286 of the Plateau State Penal Code Law.
