A concert by popular singer, Rubby Perez has left 1oo people dead after the roof of Jet set nightclub in Santo Domingo collapsed shortly after Tuesday midnight.
About 350 rescue workers arrived the scene on Wednesday morning to search and rescue victims, confirming the death of 98 and a total of 155 persons transported to the nearby hospitals.
Enrique Paulino, Perez’s manager confirmed the death of the 69 years old singer and the groups’ saxophonist who were performing on stage at the time of the incident.
The family of the deceased singer reported that, the singer was initially rescued alive and was found singing. He was immediately transported to Plaza de Salud hospital for treatment before he was confirmed dead.
Among the deceased are; old Major league Baseball Pitcher Octavio Dotel, winner of a world series in 2011 with St Louis Cardinals, Governor of Monte Cristi municipality, Nelsy Cruz, 51 years old Dotel, who won a ring with St. Louis Cardinals in 2011 and several other athletes.
The president of Dominican Republic, Luis Abinader visited the scene, declaring three days of national mourning as people gathered outside the venue seeking news of their loved ones.
