Tragedy Strikes: Ex-Guardian Editor Debo Adesina Loses Mother, But Questions Arise

The family of Debo Adesina, former Nigerian Ambassador to Togo and ex-Editor-in-Chief of The Guardian, has announced the passing of their matriarch, Deaconess Esther Adesina, who died peacefully on April 1, 2025, at over 90 years old.

While tributes pour in, some observers are questioning the untold stories behind her life, as whispers of family disputes and hidden legacies surface.

In an official statement, the Adesina family described the late Deaconess as a dutiful soldier of Christ,a selfless giver and a pillar of support who left behind a huge legacy of compassion, righteousness, and hard work.

However, sources close to the family suggest that not everyone agrees with this saintly portrayal. Unverified reports hint at unresolved family tensions and disagreements over inheritance and influence, which could soon become public.

Was Mama Adesina’s Legacy Without Controversy

As a long-time deaconess of the Baptist Church, Esther Adesina was known for her strong religious convictions. Yet, some within church circles recall internal disagreements over leadership roles and her unyielding stance on certain doctrinal matters.

Furthermore, given her son Debo Adesina’s high-profile career in politics and media, some believe her influence extended far beyond family and faith, raising questions about her behind-the-scenes role in shaping public narratives.

With high-ranking political figures expected to attend her burial, it remains to be seen whether the occasion will be a solemn tribute or a stage for long-buried tensions to resurface.
