A tragic petrol tanker explosion in Majiya Town, Taura Local Government Area of Jigawa, has claimed the lives of at least 90 people, with 50 others hospitalized for injuries. The incident occurred late Tuesday night when the tanker driver lost control near Khadija University.
Police spokesperson Mr. Shi’isu Adam confirmed that the tanker was en route from Kano to Nguru in Yobe when the accident happened. He expressed concern over bystanders gathering at the scene, despite warnings to avoid such areas during fuel tanker accidents, which contributed to the high casualty rate.
A mass burial for the victims was scheduled for Wednesday at 9 a.m., while the injured were receiving treatment at Ringim General Hospital.
