Troops Foil Abduction in Benue, Rescue 11 Victims Including Two Police Officers

Makurdi, Benue State – August 4, 2025

In a successful counter-kidnapping operation, Nigerian Army troops rescued 11 people, including two police officers, from a notorious kidnap syndicate in Benue State over the weekend. The victims had been held captive in a remote forest area near the Sank era axis, a region long troubled by armed banditry and abduction cases.

According to a statement from the Defense Headquarters, the rescue followed actionable intelligence and swift coordination between military units and local security agencies. A fierce exchange of gunfire reportedly led to the kidnappers abandoning their captives and fleeing the area.

“The operation underscores our commitment to the safety of all citizens—regardless of background or uniform,” said Brigadier General Tukur Abdullahi, who confirmed that all the rescued individuals are in stable condition and receiving medical attention.

Among those freed were two female civilians, a commercial driver, and six other individuals abducted while traveling on rural routes. Security officials say investigations are ongoing to apprehend the fleeing suspects and dismantle the network behind the abductions.

Local leaders and human rights groups have commended the army’s intervention while urging sustained efforts to make Benue safe for residents, farmers, and travelers alike.
