Troops Neutralise Two Terrorists in Taraba

Nigerian troops have neutralised two suspected terrorists during a clearance operation in Taraba State, in a fresh push to restore peace and security in the region.

According to military sources, the operation was carried out following credible intelligence reports on the movement of armed criminals in the area. The troops engaged the terrorists in a brief but fierce gun battle, leading to the death of two members of the group, while others escaped with gunshot wounds.

Arms and ammunition were recovered during the operation, including assault rifles, ammunition belts, and other dangerous weapons. The military noted that the successful raid has further weakened the operational capacity of the terrorist network in the North-East axis.

Speaking on the development, the Defence Headquarters reaffirmed its commitment to rid Taraba and other parts of the country of criminal elements. “The Nigerian Army remains resolute in its determination to protect lives and property, and to ensure that terrorists and other violent groups have no safe haven anywhere in Nigeria,” a military spokesperson said.

Residents in nearby communities have expressed relief, commending the troops for their timely intervention. However, they also called for sustained patrols to prevent the terrorists from regrouping.

Taraba State has witnessed pockets of violent attacks in recent months, with security forces intensifying efforts to clamp down on armed groups responsible for kidnappings, banditry, and other crimes.

The latest operation is part of the ongoing nationwide offensive aimed at restoring lasting peace and security across troubled regions of the country.
