It’s day nine at Wimbledon with another set of men’s and women’s semi-finals to come today. On Tuesday reigning champion Novak Djokovic overcame an early scare to defeat Andrey Rublev in four sets, cruising into yet another semi. The perennial Grand Slam champion boasted about adding yet another major title to his name, telling rivals that a surprise defeat ‘ain’t happening’.
The man who can make that claim come back to haunt Djokovic is Jannik Sinner, who is into his first Wimbledon men’s singles semi-final after beating Roman Safiullin on Tuesday. Djokovic and Sinner will meet on Friday, and few can blame the Serb for having such huge confidence as he seeks to play in a ninth final at the All England Club.
Wednesday’s order of play sees more quarter-finals across the men’s and ladies’ singles tournaments. Today, Daniil Medvedev will go toe-to-toe with Chris Eubanks while world No 1 Carlos Alcaraz is also in action on Centre Court against Holger Rune.
Madison Keys will also be buoyed by her come-from-behind victory over Russian teenager Mirra Andreeva on Monday as the American faces Aryna Sabalenka. Ons Jabeur and Elena Rybakina will also clash for a place in the semi-finals.
