Turaki’s PDP NWC Gains Strength Amid Power Brokers’ Abuja Visit

ABUJA — Key statutory organs and leadership groups of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have expressed strong support for the newly elected National Working Committee (NWC) led by Barrister Kabiru Tanimu Turaki, SAN, as the party seeks to stabilize after its 2025 National Convention in Ibadan.

In a statement signed by the party’s National Organizing Secretary, Theophilus Dakas Shan, major PDP structures—including state chairmen, National Assembly caucuses, National Ex-Officio members, and forums of former governors, ministers, and past NWC officials—are set to hold a series of solidarity meetings with the new national leadership in Abuja.

Under the schedule, the NWC will meet separately on Wednesday with PDP state chairmen, members of the House of Representatives, and National Ex-Officio members. During these sessions, the Committee will also present the Certificate of Return to Dr. Oluwole Oluyede, the party’s flagbearer for the June 20, 2026, Ekiti State governorship election.

Further engagements include a meeting on December 16 with former governors, ministers, and ex-NWC members, followed by a session with the Senate Caucus on December 17. Shan described the meetings as part of the NWC’s efforts to consolidate leadership and chart a new direction for the party following the Ibadan convention.

In a related development, the PDP has constituted a 24-member Osun State Governorship Appeal Panel to review appeals arising from the recently concluded primary elections ahead of the 2026 governorship poll. The panel, chaired by Turaki, will convene on Thursday, December 11, 2025, at the Bauchi Governors Lodge, Tatari Ali House, Asokoro, Abuja.

Ambassador Taofeek Arapaja will serve as Secretary, while Emmanuel Ekpe and Suleiman Usman have been appointed Administrative Secretaries. Panel members represent all geopolitical zones, and the body is expected to operate strictly under the PDP Constitution (2025 as amended), the Electoral Guidelines for Party Primaries, and the 2022 Electoral Act.
