Two domestic staff, Maryam Aliyu and Sa’adatu Umar, were on Wednesday arraigned before a Shari’a Court II in Magajin Gari, Kaduna State, for allegedly stealing their employer’s gold earrings.
The Prosecution Counsel, Insp. Luka Sadau, told the court that one Yagana Ali reported the matter to the Sabon Gari Police Station on Aug. 30, alleging that she suspected the two girls of stealing her gold earrings valued at ₦270,000.
Sadau said the complainant disclosed that Maryam had been in her service for eight years.
Both defendants, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge. Umar told the court: “I have never been to my madam’s bedroom. I only sweep and clean the living room and surroundings.”
The Judge, Malam Yakubu Abdullahi, granted the defendants bail on the condition that they provide a reliable surety.
He adjourned the case until Sept. 15 and ordered the complainant to present her witnesses on the next hearing date.
